Seasonal Availability

South American Hake

Vessels are allowed to operate 11 months per year. Each vessel has to take a compulsory 1 month break. This is normally during December and January.

The Argentinian waters are also divided into zones. The North and South zones are divided at 41° in line with the town, Viedma. Each zone has a quota that is allowed to be caught per year. The North zone is shared by Argentina and Uruguay while only Argentinian vessels are allowed in the South zone. These zones are part of continuous efforts by the Argentinian authorities to protect the resource.

Although some hake is caught between February and June the vessels mainly focus on Illex Squid in the first half of the year, and then catch their hake quotas between July and December.

North American Hake

Season starts 15 May and closes end October.
